Service Description: This map shows the summation of all expected fish species life history stage presence in the MidAtlantic Region of the Atlantic Ocean. There are 24 species included in this summary, with 100 being the areas that contain life history stages of species that are most valuable for the sustenance of their species, while highlighting areas where these species stages are succeptible to their environment or human activities. This map may allow fisheries managers focus on particular regions of high fish egg/larvae/juvenile biodiversity to help conserve the high quality habitat for the fish egg life stage, as well as indicate the presence of adult species that may be important recreationally or commercially. Data was compiled from the Essential Fish Habitat layer from MARCO. This MARCO dataset include egg, larvae, juvenile, and adult stage classes for a suite of MidAtlantic fish. Each species stage distribution was separated into different shape files and converted to raster files. All life history layers were weighted by how vulnerable the life stage is with eggs being weighted with most sensitivity, then larvae, juvenile, and adult stages.
