Service Description: In June 2019, the R/V Falkor conducted multibeam acoustic bathymetry and backscatter surveys in areas offshore of Washington and Oregon. This cruise examined methane seeps along the Cascadia margin as well as the physical and chemical properties of these seep habitats and the benthic communities associated with seep sites. This cruise was helmed by scientists from the U.S. Geological Survey and included participants from Schmidt Ocean Institute, GEOMAR, Oregon State University, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory. It is an affiliate cruise of EXPRESS, an inter-agency federal and non-federal oceanographic research cooperative of the U.S. Geological Survey, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, and Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute.
This set of shaded relief images was generated from the processed bathymetry grid prepared by Bill Danforth, USGS Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center. The raw bathymetry is available to download here through the NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information bathymetric data archive.
