Service Description:
Urban Areas
Cities are not always friendly places for birds; they have limited natural vegetation, and tall buildings and other infrastructure with which birds can collide. Green spaces within our cities provide food, shelter, and safe passage for birds and recreational areas for people. By expanding green spaces, adopting bird-safe building codes, making our own offices and homes bird-friendly, and planting native plants we can make cities better for people and better for birds.

Data Source(s)
Processing
We mapped urban areas as a binary surface by identifying all 3-km cells where the human population density exceeded 1,000 people per square mile (386 people per square kilometer) in 2010.

Most Relevant IUCN - CMP Unified Direct Threat Classification
1.1.1. High-density urban development
