Service Description: In 1714, the British Government offered a prize of £20,000 for a solution to 'The Longitude Problem'. This followed a shipwreck with serious loss of life, which was the culmination of many years of inaccurate navigation at sea because of the difficulty of calculating Longitude. John Harrison was a rural clockmaker who devoted his life to finding this solution, and despite numerous setbacks he eventually won the prize. This map chronicles some examples of this bad navigation, and the sea trials for the Harrison clocks.
