This dataset describes aggregates ship movement from 2015 to 2020 and represents the total number of ships that have passed through a certain pixel over this period. The data is generated at a 500m x 500m grid, but has been further aggregated to 0.5 degree to simplify vizualization.

This data was obtained through a partnership with IMF, as part of IMF's World Seaborne Trade Monitoring System (Cerdeiro, Komaromi, Liu and Saeed, 2020)
