Service Description:
Lake Poyang, China's largest freshwater lake, is shrinking as upstream water is pulled from the Yangtze River at the Three Gorges Dam. Those whose livelihoods depend on the lake are alarmed, as the shrinking lake changes the land cover of the area and impacts the economy. By classifying and comparing imagery between 1984 and 2014 we can visualize and quantify the surface area changes of the lake over time to help them build a case to save the lake.

Subtracting the water area in 2014 (202309.1) from the 1984 (269654.9) classified layers shows us that the lake has shrunk by 67,345.8 hectares over this period of 30 years.
