Service Description: Net Primary Productivity in September 2015.
Description from NASA Earth Observations: The colors on these maps indicate how fast carbon was taken in for every square meter of land for the time span indicated. Values range from -1.0 grams of carbon per square meter per day (tan) to 6.5 grams per square meter per day (dark green). A negative value means decomposition or respiration overpowered carbon absorption; more carbon was released to the atmosphere than the plants took in.
