Service Description: This dataset is a subset of the Tuolumne Aquatic Resources Relational Inventory (TARRI) compiled by Brian Quelvog, California Department of Fish and Game. The database focuses on fish, amphibians, insects, crustacean, and other invertebrates, and includes hydrologic information associated with collection sites in inland waterways located in Tuolumne County and the six surrounding counties (Calaveras, Stanislaus, Merced, Mariposa, Mono, and Alpine). Over seventy-five sources of information were used to develop the dataset including aquatic surveys by several agencies, file reports from the California Department of Fish and Game, personal communications, and research articles as well as museum records from institutions such as the California Academy of Sciences. Collection dates for some data are historical (back to 1889), but the majority range from 1979 to 2003. What each record represents Each record represents the collection, identification, and cataloging of one or more specimens of the given taxon under the location, time, and habitat conditions listed in the record.

- Title: Aquatic Organisms [ds193]
- Author: BIOS_Admin
- Comments:
- Subject: The TARRI database was developed to: * demonstrate the feasibility of compiling a significant amount of the known aquatic fauna data for a finite geographical area. * provide resource managers with a foundation of information on what species have occurred in the area and under what conditions (reference conditions). This will allow data-driven decisions on appropriate monitoring and management activities to ensure protection of the resources. * provide the means to integrate related datasets from available information on species occurrence, population dynamics and habitat conditions to allow fisheries managers to make informed decisions in areas such as setting angling regulations and watershed planning. Incorporating the data into BIOS provides the additional capability of spatial analysis of the data. * provide a data model that could be adapted and expanded statewide. * serve as a reference resource for educators, anglers and other members of the general public. Known Caveats of the Data The accuracy of all data represented in the data set is ultimately the responsibility of the listed identifier. In the case of museum specimens, labeled identification may only be tentative and subject to more current taxonomy. Specimens may have been identified by current specialists in that specific group and their identification should, therefore, be considered tentative. Number of specimens of any one species observed should not be taken as a quantitative measure of either the population or an index of the population but only of the sample collected.
