Service Description: 1942 aerials for the Santa Rosa Plain in central Sonoma County. These aerial photographs were collected by the Department of War and were used for planning troop deployment in case of a Japanese invasion of the West Coast. This set of photography is the earliest complete countywide set of air photos of Sonoma County. In an effort funded by the Ag + Open Space District, the Sonoma County Water Agency and others, hard copy air photos (9" x 9") were scanned and georeferenced by SFEI

Given the challenges of historical data, accuracy varies in different parts of the image, and in some places horizontal displacement may be as high as 50 meters. For this reason, SFEI recommends that the imagery be used at a coarse scale. Caution should be used when comparing this imagery to more spatially accurate contemporay sources. Data may be subject to change without prior notification.
