Service Description:

Prior to 2020, South Carolina State Government, along with a majority of our Local Governments saw a need for high quality aerial imagery.  State law requires that counties must map using orthophotography every 10 years for assessment purposes.  This created a unique dataset which had a multitude of varying spatial, temporal and radiometric resolutions.  With this "patchwork" of imagery no one entity could really benefit from a standard dataset.  Because of this need for a baseline imagery dataset, South Carolina Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Office's (SC RFA) statewide aerial initiative became a reality.  With onetime General Assembly appropriations, we were able to successfully collect a full statewide aerial dataset.  This data was collected between January 7 and March 7, 2020, during leaf-off and cloud free conditions by Kucera International Inc. Using both frame (Vexcel Eagle M1) and push-broom (Leica ADS100) based digital mapping cameras, all of the imagery was collected at 6-inch resolution with 4-radiometric bands producing True and False Color datasets. This data will be used by local, state and federal agencies to help manage land, land tax assessment, change detection and emergency operations along with other business applications.
