Service Description:
Combining existing national and sub-national data for both crop yield and fertilizer input. The authors divided the world into areas of similar growing characteristics on the basis of climate, and then calculate potential yield and the factors contributing to yield gaps for 16 major crops: barley, groundnut, maize, millet, oil palm, rapeseed, rice, rye, sorghum, soybean, sugarbeet, sugarcane, sunflower, wheat, cassava and potato.
Mapping crop yields are focus on the major crop-growing regions around the world. To filter out grid cell that are not a part of the major growing regions for each crop, were sorted the grid cells based on the fraction of the grid cell occupied by the given crop. The analysis is based on the grid cells that comprise the top 95% of the global for that crop (Licker et al. 2010)
