Service Description: Pest risk maps, based on models predicting climatic suitability for Phenacoccus manihoti. Climatic suitability is estimated by the Eco climatic index (EI). The EI reflects the annual balance between population growth during favorable season and mortality during unfavorable season. Theoretically, EI is scaled between 0 and 100. EI values greater than 20 indicate high risk of infestations of invasive pest P.manihoti.

The cassava Mealybug (Phenacoccus manihoti) is one of the most severe pests of cassava in the world. Several non-preferred host species can support P. manihoti reproduction, but only cassava is known to experience significant damage by this insect. Pest risk maps, based on models predicting climatic suitability for a species, are important to decision-support for management invasive pest.
