Service Description: For the subset of plants endemic to California, total ‘Endemism’ is sum of taxon endemism scores weighted by their presence probability in the cell.  Endemism scores for each taxonis the inverse of the California range size of a given taxon, where range size is the sum of presence probabilities across all grid cells based on species distribution modeling. This data was created using Maxent modeling (Phillips et al. 2006) to model habitat suitability based on climate variables, but also incorporates distances to species occurrences (which reflects processes like dispersal limitation, edaphic specialization and source-sink dynamics) as well as landscape intactness (Degagne et al. 2016).
