Service Description: The NOS Seabed Map Service provides access to brief descriptions of the composition of the sea floor from over 200,000 locations, primarily in U.S. coastal areas. The descriptions were produced by the NOAA National Ocean Service (NOS), and its predecessor, the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USCGS), from small geologic samples that were collected during hydrographic surveys to determine bottom type for charting purposes.

Note: This is a tile layer, visible from global scales to zoom level 10 (approx. 1:577,000 scale). The corresponding dynamic map service draws at all scales, and allows filtering.

The points are assigned random colors, based on the survey ID of the corresponding NOS hydrographic survey. Points from the same survey will have the same color.
